I was commissioned to create parasols for the beautiful new cafe at West Lexham retreat centre. The ethos of the place is of peace, creativity and beauty and it reminded me of the aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement. I took inspiration from the whirls of William de Morgan designs to create this organic and painterly pattern which looks like the curled heads of new fern fronds. I chose terracotta to complement and contrast with the warm red and orange tones of the clay tiled buildings, and the lusciously verdant foliage.
Terracotta and burnt orange are key interior colours for 2025, the colours of this parasol complement and contrast with spring and summer foliage. It would look wonderful against paving stones, and even on a beach for alfresco dining or a picnic.
The parasol is made in Bali by skilled artisans in around 20 separate stages. The swirling terracottae canopy is digitally printed canvas lined with cream taffeta. The inside threading is light grey, and the parasol fringing is orange with eucalyptus green tassels. The pole is hand carved with gold painted accents and the pegs and fittings are brass.

CARING FOR YOUR PARASOL
These parasols are glamorous and gorgeous divas and are intended primarily as sun shades so please don’t get them too wet. A few splodges are fine, just make sure they’re fully dried off before you put them away. Treat them as you would your cushions.
Store your parasol in its bag as upright as possible to avoid irritation, away from radiators.
Each East London Parasol is handmade and unique, with its own character. Please be prepared to carry out a little care in order to enjoy many happy summers with your fair weather friend. Read our Care Guide
Includes: A handmade and hand-painted parasol; hand-carved pole, and a cotton bag with strap for carrying & storage.
These are handmade items and there may be some variation in colour.

HOW THEY'RE MADE
Our Round Bamboo Parasols are made in Bali, by hand in over 20 separate stages by artisans. They’re incredibly talented and every part of the parasols is built from scratch, down to the whittling of the parasol arms from bamboo poles.
We use sustainable fruit woods and bamboo to create these beautiful parasols using traditional techniques. The fact that the parasols are handmade is an essential element of their appeal: many of these processes cannot be mechanised without compromising the beauty and personality of the fabrics.
The parasols have contrasting coloured or thread-work linings, making the insides (which you look at when sitting underneath) as striking as the outsides.
