CARING FOR YOUR NEW PARASOL
Each East London Parasol is handmade and unique, with its own character. Please be prepared to carry out a little care in order to enjoy many happy summers with your fair weather friend.

CARING FOR OUR
ROUND BAMBOO PARASOLS
OPENING YOUR PARASOL
Please remove the paper – it’s there to protect the spokes in transit. On first opening your bamboo parasol you may find it rather stiff because of the new bamboo and new fabric.
Be reassured it does get easier.
We recommend that you open the top half the wrong way up, pushing gently against the floor until you see the peg hole in the pole, then put the peg in. If you can't see the peg hole then you need to open the parasol more - we can assure you it is there.
Once the parasol is open, turn it the right way up and put the two halves together.
This is A Big Thing to open, it is large and requires strength and balance. Please remove the paper – it’s there to protect the spokes in transit. On first opening your bamboo parasol you may find it rather stiff because of the new bamboo and stiff fabric.

HOLES
All the bamboo parasols are held together by a peg which is visible through a hole in the fabric at the very top.
Do not worry!
This is how it's made and every parasol will have one, it won't tear or get any larger. It is invisible when the parasol is up.
Do not worry, they do match. They only fit in one position, please twist the top half around to align with the next hole.

Caring for your parasol
These parasols are glamorous and gorgeous divas and are intended primarily as sun shades so please don’t get them too wet. A few splodges are fine, just make sure they’re fully dried off before you put them away. Treat them as you would your cushions.
Our parasols are handmade, handpainted and made from wood. We strongly suggest you bring them in when it rains. Please under no circumstances use any of the parasols in windy weather conditions as a fall will damage them.
In the unlikely event that the fabric develops a hole or a tassel becomes displaced this is easily mended with needle and thread. The silver fringe may sometimes tangle, but with care you can shake it out. It is simply made and simple to repair.
Store your parasol in its bag as upright as possible to avoid irritation, away from radiators.
Waterproofing and UV protecting nanosprays are available online. These parasols are glamorous and gorgeous divas and are intended primarily as sun shades so please don’t get them too wet. Waterproofing and UV protecting nanosprays are available online. We advise the cream coloured ones for longer colour – no matter how hardy the fabric, the sun is the most powerful bleach.
These are handmade textiles so please be prepared for some sun fade and antiquing of gold ink, adding to the character of the piece.
Please ensure your parasol is fully dry before storing it. Ideally we advise you to store it in its bag and in the box it arrived in, away from radiators.

CARING FOR OUR

CARE
Our octagonal parasols are named after divas known publicly and personally, please be prepared to carry out a little care in order to enjoy many happy summers with your fair weather friend.
Please under no circumstances use your parasol in windy weather conditions, a fall will damage it.
We understand the unpredictable Great British Summer, so your parasol arrives in a waterproof bag which you can place over it if a sudden rain shower appears.
It is best not to let them get very wet as they are ornamental pieces with beautiful wooden frames. If they do get wet, please ensure they dry out thoroughly before storing to avoid any damage to the wood or mildew forming on the fabric.
Our octagonal parasols have water resistant treated canvas canopies and will be more water resistant, however we still suggest you bring them in when it rains to ensure the longest life for your parasol.
Our octagonal parasol canopies are made from cotton canvas lined with cotton sheeting. Cotton can form mildew if it’s stored when damp so please make sure your parasol is dry before storing. Treat them as you would your cushions. Sun is the most powerful bleach and some colour fade may occur. Waterproof and UV protective textile nanosprays are available from many retailers.
The canopy has Velcro corners and is removable for washing or replacement. You simply undo the pockets at the end of each arm, and unscrew the top finial to remove it from the frame. Please follow the laundry instructions in the sewn in label and some changes to the texture of the fabric may occur.
The frame is made from varnished ash wood, please clean it with a clean, dry, soft cloth to prevent any build up of dirt.
The brass fittings may tarnish when exposed to damp, this will look like a dulling of the metal or a green colour. This is normal and we advise you to remove it with brass polish and a soft cloth.
In the unlikely event that the fabric develops a hole or a tassel becomes displaced this is easily mended with needle and thread.
East London Parasols cannot offer a full refund or replacement where care instructions have not been followed.

All our Octagonal Parasols are screen printed with sunfast ink to help reduce fading, but strong sun is the most powerful bleach. These are handmade textiles so please be prepared for some sun fade, adding to the character of the piece. We advise the natural-coloured ones for longer colour as these are least susceptible to fading. Waterproof and UV protective textile nanosprays are available from many retailers.

The canopy should be properly pleated to keep it uncrumpled. Pleating is done by pulling the canopy panels outwards away from the pole, ensuring that no fabric is caught between the struts and spokes. The fabric is then folded down in rotation, as if you were putting away a rain umbrella.
Please ensure your parasol is fully dry before storing it. Ideally we advise you to store it in its bag and in the box it arrived in, away from radiators.
REPLACEMENT COVERS
We stock a library of parasol canopies for our Octagonal Parasol customers. Our aim is that you can swap canopies to change the look of a parasol, just as if you were changing a tablecloth.
If you wish to replace your canopy or buy a new one please email hello@eastlondonparasols.com with your order number and we will send you the private link to our Canopy Collection.
