Did you know that planting trees is one of the best ways to combat the damaging effects of climate change? Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity- so in 2021 East London Parasol proudly partnered up with One Tree Planted, an environmental charity dedicated to responsible reforestation. We plant a tree in India and Indonesia for every parasol we sell.
One Tree Planted works across the globe- the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe and Pacific - in partnership with local communities and knowledgeable experts . Their reforestation helps to rebuild forests after fires and floods, provide jobs for social impact, and restore biodiversity. Many projects have overlapping objectives, creating a combination of benefits that contribute to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

Started in 2014, One Tree Planted has more than doubled the number of trees planted year over year, and they work with some amazing reforestation partners across 43 countries. If that's not enough, in 2020 they more than doubled the impact that they made had in 2019 by planting 10 million trees!

We work closely with communities in Indonesia and India to create our products and we have chosen to donate trees to these countries. Indonesia has exceptionally high biodiversity but its forests and ecosystem is being destroyed by deforestation for illegal logging and palm oil plantations. The trees we plant will be planted around protected areas to increase the forest footprint.

Our UK produced octagonal parasols are made from
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified ash wood. The FSC certifies
forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards.

The trees we plant in India will either be mangroves, which provide a biologically diverse and rich ecosystem, or fruit trees in villages to help local communities. In India 275million people rely on forests and trees for their fuel, food and livelihoods.
Mangroves grow in salt water and create strange-looking coastal forests. They are vital ecosystems and provide habitats for a huge amount of species. They filter and desalinate water and provide vital stabilising for shorelines. The fruit trees will provide vital food for communities for many years to come.
