Mother's Day Traditions Around The World

Mother's day traditions may vary, but the emotion and love that ties families together is the same all over the world. No matter how or when it is celebrated, it simply serves as a reminder of all mums do for their families every single day and the honour they deserve because of it.

Perhaps mothers all around the world will be envious of India's Mother's Day traditions - Hindus in India celebrate mothers and women during a 10-day festival called Durga Puja in October. People worship Mother Goddess Durga during this time and celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

-

Similarly in Peru, Mother's Day celebrations are spread over a 7 day period. Families spend this time organising special meals, parties and trips for their mothers. What's even better is that mothers can visit museums, exhibitions, and festivals for free during this week, definitely something that should be introduced in the UK, don't you agree?

Family is the most important aspect of an Italian’s life so it's no surprise Italian mothers are the most significant person in the household! La Festa della Mamma is celebrated on the second Sunday of every May, family members get together and indulge their mothers and give them a day off cooking. Mother’s day in Italy ends with a dessert, most often a heart-shaped cake!
