One Tree Planted

From 2021 East London Parasol Company are proud to partner with One Tree Planted, now for every parasol sold a tree will be planted in India or Indonesia

Every 1.2 seconds humans destroy an area of forest the size of a football field and 46% of the world’s forests have already been destroyed. The stats on our destruction of forests, consumption of paper and generation of greenhouse gases are dire.

Our parasols are beautiful items which with proper care will last many years, we use only sustainable woods in their production and only essential plastic in the hub of the UK made parasol frames. The round bamboo parasols are made from durian wood and bamboo; durian is a fast growing fruit tree and bamboo is abundant and sustainable. Our UK made frames are made from FSC certified ash (Forestry Stewardship Council) from responsibly managed forests which are part of a non profit transnational environmental policy. The suar wood used in our wooden bases is from the rain tree, a species of tree noted for it’s abundance and speed of growth- it is not endangered in any way and easily managed. However, no matter how sustainable our sourcing, the world needs more trees.

One Tree Planted is an incredible non profit organisation that works in countries across the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. They pool resources to enable them to operate at scale, growing trees with partners and planting during the rainy season. They work with projects that ensure biodiversity, and the trees are monitored and maintained.

One Tree Planted manages the forests and report on the impact they generate. They don’t rely on carbon reports but take a holistic approach, looking at the impact the planting has on the ecosystem, soil structure and the people who live there.

Indonesia has exceptionally high biodiversity but its forests and ecosystem is being destroyed by deforestation for illegal logging and palm oil plantations. The trees we plant will be planted around protected areas to increase the forest footprint.

The trees we plant in India will either be mangroves or fruit trees in villages. 275million people in India rely on forests and trees for their fuel, food and livelihoods.

Mangroves grow in salt water and create strange-looking coastal forests. They are vital ecosystems and provide habitats for a huge amount of species. They filter and desalinate water and provide vital stabilising for shorelines. The fruit trees will provide vital food for communities for many years to come.
